Successful first SPDE Workshop

In September, members of the SFB and Igor Cialenco from the Illinois Institute of Technology organised together the first workshop on statistics for stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) in Berlin. The workshop brought together statisticians and probabilists, as well as practitioners interested in using SPDEs as models for various phenomena such as cell motility, giant waves in the ocean, numerical weather prediction and geostatistics. The talks and discussions were highly interdisciplinary, reflecting the strong potential of statistics for SPDEs as a tool for the scientific community. The workshop was certainly very successful, and only the first of many to come.
