Fellowships
Apply for fellowships at our CRC!
In 2026, we offer two kinds of fellowships:
A) for PhD students only: a short-term fellowship to collaborate with the CRC for up to 6 months
B) for undergrads, Phd students, Postdocs max. 5 years post PhD: a Data-Assimilation-School fellowship to attend our Autumn School 2026
A) Short-term fellowship for PhD students from non-German universities

- duration: 3 to 6 months in 2026 of your choice
- monthly stipend of 1753€ (+ 400€ per child)
- travel expenses coverage of 500€ (EU) / 1000€ (non-EU)
- procedure:
- consult the call for proposals for detailed information
- choose a project and a PI you want to work with
- sketch a research proposal (max. 4 pages) for your stay
- ask the PI of your choosing for approval
- settle on a suitable time frame for your project with the PI (take visa applications and other travel preparations into account when planning your stay)
- send in your proposal with approval by the contacted PI, a research statement, and your CV

- late applications may be considered if positions are unfilled
- applications not approved this year can be reconsidered for 2027
B) Data-Assimilation-School fellowship

- only for advanced undergrads, PhD students, and postdocs (max. 5 years post PhD)
- attend our Data Assimilation Autumn School 2026 for free
- travel expenses coverage of 500€ (EU) / 1000€ (non-EU)
- date: 28 September 2026 – 2 October 2026 (arrival on 27 September)
- full-day program every day:
- grow in hands-on workshops by Kathrin Smetana (Stevens, USA) and Max Pfeffer (UPotsdam, Germany)
- present your research at our poster session
- network with DA experts in socialising events
- how to apply:
- state your motivation for working with us at the Autumn School (max. 500 words)
- write an abstract for the poster you are going to present (max. 2 pages)
- attach your CV
