IRTG Workshop: Scientific Writing (Part I)

Dr Martina Michalikova gives a two-day scientific writing workshop on the 6th and 7th of June 2024, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Please bring the following to the Workshop:
- laptop
- recent research results in the form of a figure, table or equation
- 1-2 pages from your own text: some work in progress, otherwise something older that others have not extensively edited
- 2 published research articles from your field: one that was easy to read & follow, and one that was rather hard to understand
Objectives of the Workshop are:
- Participants understand the conventional structure of research articles and know how to apply it in their particular field.
- Participants learn to create a compelling storyline for a research article.
- Participants understand the readers‘ expectations, which enables them to communicate their research findings effectively.
- Participants practice techniques for efficient structuring, drafting and revising of scientific articles.
- Participants learn how to write clearly and comprehensibly.
- Participants write short texts related to their research and revise a text written previously.
- Participants learn to use writing as a support for their scientific thinking.
- Participants reflect upon their writing productivity and develop strategies for improvement.
- Participants learn to utilize peer-feedback for effective revising.
