SFB Online Workshop: Seeing the Invisible – Understanding Unconscious Bias

Gabriele Rosenstreich14:00-15:30

This interactive online workshop with Gabriele Rosenstreich is organised together with the SFBs 1287 and 1636. It will introduce the concept of unconscious bias and its impact in academic settings. Unconscious biases are automatic mental shortcuts or attitudes that influence our understanding, actions, and decisions, often without us realising it.

The session aims to raise awareness of personal thought patterns, highlight their effects in professional contexts, and encourage self-reflection on roles and attitudes. Through a combination of presentation, interactive activities, and self-reflective exercises, participants will gain practical tools for recognising and addressing unconscious bias. The workshop is aimed at early-career researchers, and we strongly encourage principal investigators to join, as the topic is highly relevant to inclusive leadership and building a positive research culture. A PDF handout will be provided for follow-up reflection and deeper engagement with the topic.
