First SFB focus retreat

We went on the first SFB focus retreat in the beautiful Elbsandsteingebirge at the beginning of September to foster collaborations between projects A02, A01 and A06.

Sitting outside in the cold morning hours with a steaming cup of tea, Randolf Altmeyer taught us about estimating parameters of stochastic differential equations. Later Andzhey Koziuk gave a presentation about Bayesian inference and the impact of a prior distribution in a non-parametric setting.

Finally, Manfred Opper provided an introduction to variational Bayesian methods on the last day of our retreat. We also found time for an extended hike through the amazing landscape of Sächsische Schweiz and for roasting marshmallows over a bonfire with Randolf playing the guitar.
